Hotel is fine if you want an American-style hotel with staff who are adequately fluent in English, even if you know no Spanish. It is not a luxury, 5-star hotel, nor does it pretend to be, but it is equal to an up-scale hotel in the US. There are boutique hotels with a more Ecuadoran "feel," but you probably should know a bit of Spanish to stay at many […] of them. Location for me was great, as the walk to the botanical garden is an easy one, and the garden is very good. Catalina Park is interesting. Not much to add... some issues with Internet connection in my room, every time that you are in the lobby you have to ask for a new user and pass, they don't have A/Ac in the room, I know Quito has a good weather but I need A/Ac in the room, when you open the windows you can here the cars in the street, traffic, claxons, etc... The rate don include […] the breakfast, and you will have to pay extra $10... so walk a couple a block and pay $5 and you can have a typical breakfast with coffee... We only stayed here for one night before flying home. Even so, you can often get the feel for a place. HoJo's, U.S. this is not. Hotel was excellent in every respect, and a great value, expect that I had to work hard for the "complimentary breakfast". We were charged $10.00 each with tax (for a total of $24.45) and when I stated the breakfast was advertised as included, the restaurant staff as well as the reception desk personnel denied that was the case. Unfortunately, that […] perk is not shown on any of the printable material showing my reservation, so I had to resort to using the hotels computer, bringing up the Hotels.com web site and insisting that the person at reception come and look at the information that indicated a complimentary breakfast. This is a super stop over place just a block from the park and a super shopping mall! You'll love the staff. Just watch out for what they call an Entre. We call it a meal where I'm from. Great lounge area and patio.

This is a nice hotel in its class. First I will mention the things that made me unhappy. I had reserved a smoking room for two with a queen bed, but I got a non-smoking room with a double bed. HoJo as they call it is a nice hotel, while being well located close to one of the largest mall is a place to go back after a hard day around Quito with all the traffic and noise. The staff supported our needs perfectly. Open 24 hrs. We had late arrival and early departure times - no problem. Shuttle available but we used taxi. The hotel ordered the taxi that arrived early. This was a "layover" hotel for us because our flight arrived at 11PM the night before and our connecting flight was departing Quito at 7AM the next day. Facilities are pretty typical for what you pay. Nothing stellar, the sheets are clean, rooms are a bit dated and same with furniture. But the service was phenomenal. Front desk went out of the way […] to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible - including providing an electrical converter. They arranged for airport pick up and got us a cab at 4AM to drop us off early at the airport. Would definitely recommend people spend the $70 to stay here for the layover if you are connecting through Quito. Excellent choice for price. Nice park with botanical gardens nearby. Shuttle has limited hours otherwise all was completely satisfactory. Food was excellent, and so was in hotel service.

This lovely hotel is next to a gorgeous park. Restaurant is very good, but limitied vegetarian and no vegan choices. Also close walking distance to a north american style mall and a great bakery. Rooms were very nice, with great televisions and plenty of English channels, but the street noise begins early.

Stayed at HJ Carolina for an early morning flight. Not too far from airport, about 10 min withour traffic but when arrived and had traffic it was a good 20-30 min ride and cost was higher, $8 vs $4. Nice hotel to stay at

This is our first time at The Howard Johnson La Carolina hotel and we were pleasantly surprised with the very friendly and efficient manner the hotel staff treated us. The hotel was clean, comfortable and the food at the restaurant was delicious. No air-conditioning in the rooms though, and they can get a bit warm. Make arrangements with the hotel for pick-up at least 48 hours prior to your arrival or you will be charged for it.

We stayed at this hotel off and on for a period of nine days as we explored Quito and other parts of the country. The hotel was clean and updated and the staff went above and beyond to provide for our every request. The airport shuttle was great because we landed at 10:30 pm and they were there waiting for us. We were very satisfied with the fine service and accomodations at the hotel. The staff is superb and the rooms are very comfortable. Our teams will be staying here in the future. The only snag was contacting the hotel directly to arrange airport transfer to the hotel.
