The resort features an 85,000-square-foot casino, an atrium-style pool with retractable roof panels, and a showroom hosting headline performers. An outdoor sundeck offers unobstructed mountain views. John Ascuagas Nugget has 1,382 guestrooms in two 29-story towers. East Tower guestrooms, renovated in 2007, offer contemporary decor and updated amenities such as pillowtop mattresses and 42-inch flat-panel TVs. West Tower guestrooms have traditional decor and comfortable sitting areas. All rooms include wireless Internet access (surcharge), cable channels, and pay movies.

Restaurante Orozko - John Ascuaga's tribute to his Basque-immigrant parents, Orozko features an evening martini lounge serving tapas and live jazz. Under a vaulted ceiling painted and lighted to resemble the sky, the restaurant serves Basque specialties as well as Mediterranean and American favorites such as steak, seafood, pasta, and salt-roasted prime rib.
The Steakhouse Grill – This warm brick-walled restaurant accented with Parisian posters and booth seating offers a varied menu of contemporary cuisine and favorites including steaks, chops, chicken, seafood, prime rib, and pastas.
Trader Dick's – Inspired by the island tropics, this Polynesian-themed restaurant features large booths, tropical gardens, and exotic drinks with umbrellas. Asian and Polynesian-accented dinners include wok-charred lobster and Peking duck breast. The Tiki Bar adjacent to the restaurant wraps around an enormous tropical fish tank. The lounge has dancing to a disc jockey and karaoke.
Rotisserie Buffet - The restaurant offers lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch buffets, as well as nightly themes such as Italian, seafood, or barbecued ribs. Decor is gleaming brass and cozy booths. Premium Prime Rib is served every night.
Rosie's Café - Pressed-tin ceiling, ceiling fans, and brass and glass-enclosed booths. Serves a varied menu of snacks and dishes, such as the Awful-Awful (double-patty cheeseburger), and other items from the original roadside coffee shop menu that grew into this casino hotel. Daily specials include roast turkey, grilled trout, and coq au vin. Open 24 hours.
Starbucks - Offering light fare, coffee, and other drink selections.
Gabe's Pub & Deli - The deli serves sandwiches, pizza, snacks, light meals, and pastries. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Entertainment every weekend includes headliners such as Lyle Lovett, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Hall and Oates, as well as boxing matches and other events. The 700-seat Celebrity Showroom offers classic seating in booths tiered down to the stage.
The Rose Ballroom seats 2,000 for entertainers such as Clint Black, Chris Isaak, and Wynonna Judd. The Casino Cabaret features jazz, blues, and rock and roll. Live jazz artists play in the Orozko Lounge and dancing to a live DJ is offered in Trader Dick's.
Beginning on one side of I-80 and running under the freeway to open onto downtown Sparks' central plaza, the casino supplies 85,000 square feet of slots, video poker, keno, blackjack, craps, roulette, poker, and other table games. One level below the casino are sports and race books, with the race book featuring desks illuminated by green-shade lamps. A tile path leads around the casino to restaurants. There also is a bingo parlor.
Wednesday evenings, the Orozko Lounge hosts nationally known jazz recording artists.
John's Club The club offers complimentary membership cards that reward table game, slot, bingo, keno, and race and sports book players with "club dollars" that can be used for rooms, meals, shows, beauty services, and gift shop purchases.

Sparks, Reno’s next-door neighbor, was founded in 1905 after the railroad built facilities here. Where Reno is tall, Sparks is low slung, with Victorian Square at its heart. "Great Place To Stay"
This hotel was right off the freeway and was in a good neighborhood. It was in Sparks, NV which is only a few minutes drive to downtown Reno on the freeway. (The location is much better than downtown Reno which seems to have a lot of homeless wandering the streets.) The hotel was nice and I enjoyed the Bingo palor ( I won on my first game!) "The room was circa 1978! Crushed velvet comforter!"
For a Friday night stay the price was ok but for another 20 I should have stayed somewhere else. The room was horrible. The bed had a crushed velvet comforter and it was clearly never cleaned. I can't even find the words to discribe the wall paper nightmare. The staff was very nice. Truly the best part of the place.

We had a great stay at the Nugget. We hadn't been to Reno in five years but in the past the Nugget was the place we stayed. "Should have brought my own pillow"
When I first arrived at this hotel to check in I was told that the original room that I had reserved (and paid for) was not available unless I was willing to take a "pet friendly" room. Not wanting to take my chances with fleas and pet accidents I told them to change me to anything that was non-smoking and not pet friendly. The room that I received […] was very dirty and stank of cigarettes. The blankets on the beds looked like they hadn't been washed in a year and the pillows had yellow rings all over them. I purchased this room through hotels.com so was kind of stuck with my purchase, so I ended up going to a store nearby and buying a blanket to use during my stay. As for the disgusting pillow I just put towels on top and slept on those. After a few nights in this room I couldn't take it anymore and went home one day early, missing part of my conference and forfeiting my money for the last night. If you do decide to stay at this hotel some things you may want to know: (1) No in-room fridge - If you think that you may want to keep some snacks or cold drinks in your room I suggest bringing a cooler. The tiny ice bucket they give you will not be enough. (2) No in-room safe - Bring a vehicle with a trunk so that you can lock up laptops, etc. (3) $4 surcharge to use hotel ATM - Stop at the bank before you get here. Hope this information helps! I LOVE staying at the Nugget. the room is always clean, the service is excellent, and the pool is a must visit as well. I am not a gambler, but I enjoyed playing and I Won! I live an hour away and I come to the Nugget every chance I get. Wish it had a continental breakfast, but it can't have everything.

Hotel service was poor. From booking to check-out, I was disappointed. I found the prices on Wednesday, but by the time I booked the room on Thursday, the pricing had doubled. The lady checking us in forgot to give me my "coupon" for free wi-fi access. The hotel room was dirty, including a pile of pretzels under a night stand that they failed to clean-up […] through a 2 night stay. The hotel entrance is hard to find, without clear signs or direction. The surrounding neighborhood was dirty, though somewhat "historic." Will not stay again, especially at the rates paid. "Enjoyed our stay"
We usually avoid the big casino hotels, but we would definately come back to the Nugget. Parking was convenient with our big truck, check in was fast and the room was very nice. Especially liked that fact the the entire floor of the hotel was non-smoking, so no nasty smelling hallways. For the low mid-week rate, it was a great bargain.
I arrived late and had to leave on a very early flight. So I really didn't use any of the amenities. The bed and pillows were very comfy. I did use the hotel shuttle to the airport and it was on time and very helpful. I would stay here again. Also the price was outstanding.

Our stay was OK. Listed below are the items I was not satisfied with: 1- the TV remote was very difficult to operate, 2-the bathroom sink drain plug was faulty, and 3-we reserved a room with one king sized bed and were given one with 2 full sized beds.

"A Great Place to Stay"
J.A. Nuggett is a fine place to stay in Sparks. There are nice restaurants both within and adjacent to the property. Nice casino and a super friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Many complaints about the trains and interstate highway on each side, but it didn't bother me. I like trains! "Trip Away from It All"
Our stay at the casino was as nice as we anticipated. We had a group of seven and stayed in three separate rooms. All adults in our group wanting to get away from it all and wanting to avoid the construction mess in Reno without being too far from the city itself. We booked our stay for two nights and ended up staying for a third night to take in a […] show in Reno. Overall the hotel was rated correctly through hotels.com, however we noted a few things we did not expect in the beginning that we decided we could overlook this time. When we checked in, they were going to give us all smoking rooms and we specifically ordered one of the three rooms as NON smoking for the person in our party who carried oxygen tanks. That is when we learned our party of seven was going to be on different floors. It wasn't until we got to the rooms that we found that the rooms we booked with king sized beds turned out to be two queen beds. We did not complain because we did not want to switch rooms at the last minute. We took the rooms we got and it turned out that the beds were comfortable enough to suit our needs. "No rest here"
This was a bad location for a hotel! It is at the end of an airport runway and sandwiched between an industrial railroad train yard and a 6 lane freeway! The elevators were also loud. No rest at all. I would never stay there again or recommend it to anyone!

We stayed in the East Tower on the 5th floor. I asked for somethign close to the pool. They told me usually they charge an extra $10 but waived it for me, so that was nice. We had two kids with us ages 3 and 5. They liked the pool, but it was not as warm as I would have expected. "Customer service sucks"
If the hotel says yes to anything you ask be wary since they are not gonna fulfil it. I asked twice if the airport shuttle could take me to the airport at 4 AM and they said yes. Obviously at 4 AM I had to take a taxi and they did not care at all.

Great hotel. Beautiful indoor pool.
You cant aske for a nicer bunch of people employees/Staff were awesome food was really good and the NUGGETT is located centraly between reno & sparks. If you get a chance stay and play . Pool was really nice for the kids and a GREAT arcade was well located.. We had to endure some roudy night time guests not the hotels problem.

No A/C in the room. I called the front desk twice to get it working but it never did get fixed. We had three romms total and none of them seemed to have A/C so maybe they are turning off the A/C intentionally?

Overall thought the stay was really good but when you book through hotel.com a rate that includes a FULL COOK BREAKFAST but does not provide this then you cannot recommend this hotel. You cannot get a full cooked breakfast for $3.99 which is all they allow in the hotel. Minimum cooked breakdast is 7.95 MINIMUM. Recepticals are not easily accessible, mpstly alrrafy in use. Wi-fi os expensive.
